| Brush One beat move with either foot. Scuff the foot against the floor with the heel or toe. Cha Cha (also can be called a triple) Three quick steps done to two beats of music (count 1&2) in any direction or in place and led by either foot. Charleston Four beat move, led by either foot, can be syncopated (3 steps in 2 beats, count 1&2) Touch forward with first foot, Swing foot around and step back with first foot. Touch second foot back and then swing foot forwards and step forward. Coaster Step A syncopated step (with three movements in two beats count 1&2) Can be led by either foot. Step first foot back, step second foot beside first changing weight to second foot then step forward on first foot. Grapevine (also known as vine) Three beat move (Count 1,2,3) led by either foot going left or right. Step to the side and change weight to first foot, cross second foot behind first foot and change weight to second foot, step first foot to the side... Usually followed by a touch or brush. Can also be syncopated (3 steps in 2 beats, 1&2 count) Hitch One beat Lift knee keeping weight firmly on other leg. Hook One beat One leg lifted crossed over the other, either at the front or at the back. Jazz Box Four beat movement starting with either foot. Cross on foot over other and change weight, step back with second foot and change weight, step back on first foot and change weight, step second foot next to first foot. Kick Ball Change Three beat movement done in two beats (count 1 & 2) Can be led on either foot Kick leg out, bring foot down changing weight to the ball of that foot, then step other foot in place and change weight to this second foot. e.g. kick right out step down on right ball of foot, step left in place and change weight to left foot. Lock Three movements in 2 beats (count 1&2) but can be straight beats (count 1,2,3) Can be led by either foot forwards or back. Step forwards, Place foot behind first effectively locking it behind first and changing weight to the second leg, step forwards again on the first. Mambo Three moves in two beats but can be done in three beats. Done in all directions and led by either foot. Step first foot as per choreography (any direction) rock weight back onto second foot, step first foot back next to second foot. Weight can be interchangeable, can start off weight on first foot and end on first foot or can start on first foot and end on second and vice versa. Monterey Turn Four beat move, normally led with the right foot. Touch right to right side, quarter, half or full turn over right shoulder at the same time when turning bring right foot in and change weight. Touch left foot to left side and bring left foot next to right. |
